Sustainability and green transport with Xpedys

The different transport modes for freight have very different energy intensity and carbon-emission profiles.
Rail and barge are the modes of transport that consume the least energy.

By offering rail, barge and truck transport across Europe, Xpedys provides the most appropriate combination of transport modes for moving your goods while reducing your carbon footprint.

How green is Xpedys?

In our daily operations, we take measures at several levels to provide green and sustainable logistics:

  • kilometre prevention:
by loading barges, trains and trucks optimally, we move as many goods as possible over the fewest possible kilometres.
  • responsible driving:
    • energy metres are installed in electric locomotives to measure energy consumption and to increase
the drivers’ awareness of energy consumption,
    • drivers for both trucks and trains are trained to drive more economically
(e.g. by using an electric locomotive’s dynamic brake, which sends electricity back into the electricity network).
  • emission reduction:
    • as possible, electric locomotives are used instead of diesel locomotives,
    • our new diesel locomotives meet the latest European standards for CO2 emissions.
  • noise reduction:
we actively participate in “Europe train”, a project supported by the EU and UIC to reduce noise caused by freight trains.
